Cover Characteristics: Black and White

This is a new meme hosted by Sugar & Snark. Each week they will post a characteristic and we'll choose 5 of our favorite cover’s with that characteristic.

Today’s characteristic is…
Black & White.

Poughkeepsie (Poughkeepsie, #1)A Unique Rabbit (A Laurents County Easter story)A Clockwork Orange Channel Zero: The Complete Collection

5. Poughkeepsie by Debra Anastasia
4. A Unique Rabbit by Red Tash
3. A Clockwork Orange by Anthony Burgess
2. Channel Zero by Brian Wood
and my favourite
Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children by Ransom Riggs.
Miss Peregrine's Home For Peculiar Children
I think its pretty clear why I like most of these, keeping things monochrome often provides a neater and more appealing look, okay I pushed it slightly with Channel Zero (the use of red) and Poughkeepsie (the yellow font) but needless to say they work well.

Wishlist Wednesday (52)

Cinder (Lunar Chronicles, #1)
I've had Cinder by Marissa Meyer on my wishlsit since I first heard about it, I saw it on sale in Waterstones once but the cover was bent, it was a very sad day.

GRHumans and androids crowd the raucous streets of New Beijing. A deadly plague ravages the population. From space, the ruthless lunar people watch, waiting to make their move. No one knows that Earth’s fate hinges on one girl...
Cinder, a gifted mechanic, is a cyborg. She’s a second-class citizen with a mysterious past, reviled by her stepmother and blamed for her stepsister’s illness. But when her life becomes intertwined with the handsome Prince Kai’s, she suddenly finds herself at the center of an intergalactic struggle, and a forbidden attraction. Caught between duty and freedom, loyalty and betrayal, she must uncover secrets about her past in order to protect her world’s future.

Wishlist Wednesday is a book blog hop hosted by Pen to Paper where we share and post about a book that has been on our wishlist for some time, or just added, that we can't wait to get off the wishlist.

Are you on tumblr?

I’m asking this because the following post is for tumblr book blogs only, in hope to bring such a wide spread community together but I figured there are still a few of you that are hiding out on tumblr that I’m not aware of and this may interest you. I’m simply going to copy and paste the post that Rae has written for myself and her, I hope you will stop by! The original post can be found here.

Both myself and Lauren (of Books and Tea) are working to create the first ever Tumblr Book Awards this summer. We’re starting this project in the hopes of creating a hunger games like scenario for our favourite books to see which fans fight the strongest fight but also to create new connections between the community of book bloggers on Tumblr.
To do this we’re planning, as a group, deciding on categories of questions, and asking our followers to vote on which are the strongest books in each category then putting these books in a head to head battle. We will be hosting this competition on different blogs so that we can direct our combined audiences to blogs they wouldn’t normally visit and help each other by reblogging and posting links to where ever each stage of the awards are being held. Eventually we will end up with a winner of each category and we will then make a rebloggable list of our winners so that we have a tumblr decided reading list which we can all post and share.
This plan can only work if we have enough people to collaborate with, and this is why we need you it doesn’t matter how old your blog is, or how many followers you have if you love books, you can help us. To get involved you will need to join our skype meetings so you will need to send us your skype ID HERE, and we will then add you to our group and communicate to you the time of our first meeting

Thanks Guys

(I will be happy to answer any questions via my ask if you have any)

News from Lauren:
Okay so it’s pretty much official now, I have far too much time on my hands now I’m not in college. I’ve even volunteered helping to garden, I really dislike gardening because I hate my hands getting dirty. I go on holiday in a few weeks too which will be a nice trip abroad too and I intend to do a lot of poolside reading! I also un-tagged all my posts here and re-tagged them so its a much neater and easier to navigate and at some point I’ll be getting a new custom made design implemented but I’ll let you know more about next time around hopefully. I'm posting a day early this week because I have another two posts going up tomorrow! Other than that I have very little to report so I’m going to provide you with a few events I’ve been invited too on Goodreads that you may be interested in:

Book Tour Review: Rowan by Christina Channelle

Rowan (Blood Crave, #2)Rowan by Christina Channelle
First Published: 26th April 2013
Publisher: Christina Channelle
Genre: Young Adult: Fiction
Series: Blood Tears #1

Looking for my other reviews of the series?DahliaBlood Tears #1 [Here]
Fallen TearsBlood Tears #1.5 [Here]
Synopsis: Dark. Night. Death.
Things Rowan has been trying to avoid for many years since she was first turned. Her choice: to sleep away the darkness; it beats having to deal with the craziness of life. Or rather, death. However soon after awakening, she stumbles upon a lone figure whose presence is shrouded with mystery.
She assists him in his search for answers making it even more difficult for Rowan to forget her past. She realizes she can't hide forever as she is literally being sucked back into her chaotic world: a world where both fallen angels and vampires exist, manifested on earth as lapsus and lamia.
Not particularly... friendly with one another.
Rowan struggles to resist her hunger as a demon vampire whilst dealing with unwanted desires for a fallen angel from the past: a relationship that could only spell trouble. Not to mention the unresolved feelings she still has for a loved one from long ago. While all of this is happening, they much all seek the hidden evil that hunts them - for there's an ancient fighting to wake up and destroy everything Rowan holds dear.
Review: 4 / 5 stars
I was lucky enough to receive a copy of Rowan by Christina Channelle for review as part of a book tour, this has in no way reflected my opinion. Please note: I will try and keep this review as spoiler free as possible for those of you who haven’t read the series, but I can’t promise there will be zero spoilers.
I say lucky enough because after I finished the other novel and novella in this series I predicted that the second book would be even better and most likely my favourite of the three and I was in fact correct – though of course I may be a little bias as this book is from the point of view of Rowan who is a vampire and vampires are indeed my favourite mythical beings, but shhh. Any how back to the review, as I mentioned this is all from Rowan’s point of view and after four years of sleeping away the pain and need to feed – which hey does not seem like too bad of an idea at times to me, I mean we all have those days we’d rather just sleep through, but of course it also means that she’s ignoring other things and people that probably shouldn’t be ignored – she resurfaces into the city of Fallen and starts off by what any vamp would do, finding some food. Once full and refreshed with life/food she takes a proper look around where she is, and to those of you who aren’t as big of a fan as vampire’s as I am, I guess this is the part it gets interesting, because not far from her is a body. A body which isn’t alive but also not quiet dead, a body who we’ve previously met – Sam! Which if you forgotten like uh well I did (d’oh) is Dahlia’s brother from the first book, I blame reading at 1am for not making the connection. So Rowan does what any vampire with their humanity in tact does with a body that is neither dead or alive, yeah you guessed it, she turns Sam into a vampire.
So that is two of the main characters mentioned, the third is Remy and if you’ve read Fallen Tears you’ll know that he is one of the fallen angels, but one of the good ones, part of a family that have helped the last remaining vampires survive and stay hidden, and he’s also a total babe with the hots for Rowan. Of course. Everyone needs some form of romance in their lives.
This unlikely trio have to work together to find answers to questions, some of which they’re not even aware of. Why was Sam in such an odd state? Who has the power to do that to a person? Why does he have no memory of what happened to him and what was so important or scary that someone had to remove these memories from him? Why is a bear attacking them in the sewers? and what has happened to Sam’s family? Finding answers to only a few of these questions opens up a larger can of worms that none of them could ever be prepared for.
We eventually meet up with Dahlia and Greyson and their stories start to tie together and we get some long needed development of Rowan and Remy’s relationship as well as some unfortunate and deathly events. Like I said I don’t want to give too much away but I did really enjoy this book, there wasn’t a dull moment in it for me and seeing how the two books come together was very nice and left open an interesting chain of events to follow for the sequel. I felt like a few scenes were a little rushed towards the ending but this didn’t effect my opinion too drastically. Overall a lovely read and hasn’t suffered the terrible two’s that can often follow with series.
