Wishlist Wednesday (21)

Wishlist Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Pen to Paper where we can share books that are on our wishlist.

Goth
I've selected another manga this week, I guess I'm really into my manga horror lately! Goth by Otsuichi sounds perfect & I really like the cover too.
GRA notebook that leads to murder - a refrigerator filled with hands... a pit of dead dogs... an accidental suicide... a boy buried alive - and where two teenagers linked by an obsession with murder and torture explore the recesses of humanity's dark side.

Bought (paperback):
Lord Loss, Demon Thief, Slawter and Bec by Darren Shan

What can I say? I got a little buy happy this week and I've read his other series a few years back. Guess I wanted some good ol' gore and horror in my life again! Also I managed to find them a little cheaper because book 1 and 2 are in one book and 3 and 4 are in another, the whole series has been paired up and published like this but they're not on Goodreads. Maybe I'll fix that at a later date.
Lord Loss (The Demonata, #1)Demon Thief (The Demonata, #2)Slawter (The Demonata, #3)Bec (The Demonata, #4)

Q. What writing device or trick most irritates you when reading a book? For example, if an author employs an omnipotent narrator that is sometimes considered bad form.

A. Honestly I can't really think of any, I guess most of the time its mostly only when they use a metaphor I don't understand mainly due to the fact that I live in a bubble :3

Wishlist Wednesday (20)

Wishlist Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Pen to Paper where we can share books that are on our wishlist.

I read Uzumaki Volume 1 by Junji Ito not too long ago and its seriously spooky and creepy, I really need to get my hands on Volume 2 and 3.
GRA sleepy town on the coast of Japan is under quiet, deadly siege, not by a person or group but by a primeval spiral shape whose victims include both parents of Shuichi Saito. In this second volume of the saga, Shuichis girlfriend Kirie becomes further involved in the towns terrible secret when schoolmates start turning up as horrible human snails and something unspeakable is discovered within the walls of the local hospital
Uzumaki, Vol. 2 Uzumaki, Vol. 3.

Magnificently Magic Read-a-thon Sign Up

Magnificently magic readathon
Stopping by today to let you know of a Read-a-thon a lovely two months in advance so you can put this weekend aside and create a stack of books to zoom through.
Faye at A Daydreamers Thoughts is hosting "Magnificently Magic Read-A-Thon" as Christmas can be a very magical time of the year so this read-a-thon reflects all the wonder and magic that surrounds us whilst we're snuggled by the fire with marshmallowed hot chocolates and snow decorated window frames.
The aim of the read-a-thon is to read any magical book possible - either witches, fairies/fey, books that feel magical, books with a winder setting or even a Christmas themed book or two, basically your choice with how you'd like to approach this.
Faye has also hinted at the fact there may even be a few Christmas surprises throughout and is open to hearing if a different or extended time slot would be preferred, don't forget to stop by her post or contact her because help is always nice.

Wishlist Wednesday (19)

Wishlist Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Pen to Paper where we can share books that are on our wishlist.

After seeing a friend on goodreads give The Painted Man by Peter V. Brett a glowing five star review I had to add it to my wishlist!
The Painted Man (Demon Cycle, #1)GR: Mankind has ceded the night to the corelings, demons that rise up out of the ground each day at dusk, killing and destroying at will until dawn, when the sun banishes them back to the Core. As darkness falls, the world’s few surviving humans hide behind magical wards, praying the magic can see them through another night. As years pass, the distances between each tiny village seem longer and longer. It seems nothing can harm the corelings, or bring humanity back together.
Born into these isolated hamlets are three children. A Messenger teaches young Arlen that fear, more than the demons, has crippled humanity. Leesha finds her perfect life destroyed by a simple lie, and is reduced to gathering herbs for an old woman more fearsome than the demons at night. And Rojer’s life is changed forever when a traveling minstrel comes to his town and plays his fiddle.
But these three children all have something in common. They are all stubborn, and know that there is more to the world than what they’ve been told, if only they can risk leaving their safe wards to find it.

Wishlist Wednesday (18)

Wishlist Wednesday is a weekly meme hosted by Pen to Paper where we can share books that are on our wishlist.

Gardens of the Moon (Malazan Book of the Fallen, #1)This has been in my wishlist for a while, pretty sure someone recommend it to me - Gardens of the Moon by Steven Erikson.
GR: The Malazan Empire simmers with discontent, bled dry by interminable warfare, bitter infighting and bloody confrontations. Even the imperial legions, long inured to the bloodshed, yearn for some respite. Yet Empress Laseen's rule remains absolute, enforced by her dread Claw assassins.

For Sergeant Whiskeyjack and his squad of Bridgeburners, and for Tattersail, surviving cadre mage of the Second Legion, the aftermath of the siege of Pale should have been a time to mourn the many dead. But Darujhistan, last of the Free Cities of Genabackis, yet holds out. It is to this ancient citadel that Laseen turns her predatory gaze.

However, it would appear that the Empire is not alone in this great game. Sinister, shadowbound forces are gathering as the gods themselves prepare to play their hand . . .

Conceived and written on a panoramic scale, Gardens of the Moon is epic fantasy of the highest order--an enthralling adventure by an outstanding new voice.

Book Tour Review: Pledged

Pledged (Soul Wars Saga, #1)
Pledged by Gwynneth White

Published: June 13th 2012
Publisher: Smashwords

Series: Soul Wars Saga #1

Page Count: 503

Synopsis: Everyone has a soul mate. But what do you do when your soul mate would rather give his soul to the demons than be with you? Seventeen-year-old Erin has a problem. Seth has been hers forever, but now an ancient curse is tearing him away. And the demons who invoked it will stop at nothing – even murder – to claim him as their own.
How can she win against a curse so binding that it has damned countless others to this same fate – an eternity alone?

The answer lies in the past. To find it, Erin and Seth must risk all, travelling back in time to a dangerous world where love is forbidden, and life – and death – hang on a pledge.

Follow Erin and Seth as they travel to ancient Shenaya and confront the curse that has plagued their families for millennia. Caught in a war between the Angelic Guardians and the Gefallen, the disembodied dead, they must fight to keep their souls in tact and their love untainted.

Review: Pledged follows Seth and Erin as they learn about their lives before they were born and the lives of their ancestors before their very eyes years and years after any of the events had happened, all thanks to one more than your average diamond. What this whole story bottles down to is a thousand year old curse, good vs evil, brother vs brother, its not something that I could actually explain in depth now without giving anything vital away, but also because its so in depth and intricate that it'd probably take me a few days to decide how to explain it cause its a little confusing to begin with but nevertheless it all makes complete sense by the end of the book, of course you do have to keep reading because every small detail you unravel presents you with more questions and wanting to know more and the story does not fail in keeping you hooked or throwing problems in the characters paths that yourself, Erin & Seth just wish they could help them to deal with, but of course as on lookers of the past nothing can be changed. As for the characters, I completely adored Erin to pieces and I was dying to get more development of the relationship between her and Seth but Seth is more of a closed book kind of guy who doesn't really allow that to happen yet so I have high hopes for the next book as the ending left us wanting to read on. As I've mentioned Seth is more of a closed book kind of guy and whilst there are hints or gestures of all these redeeming qualities he's supposed to have I just didn't really connect with him at all or feel much for him as a character, like I felt so much emotion for Caleb and Jared but not so much Seth, I can't quiet place my finger on it. Whilst I enjoyed reading about most of the characters and the storyline I think over all it took a little too long to finally fall into place and if you don't put much thought into what you're reading you could easily get confused, there is a lot of names to remember, luckily this different happen with myself but it does seem like it could be rather overwhelming due to the fact so much happens and you're not always viewing it in the right time sequence which is why I'm not willing to give it a straight 4 star rating, I know I'm difficult ey?
Recommend? Sure thing

Q. What do you hope to accomplish with your blog? Is it to one day become an author yourself, just for fun, maybe get some online attention, or maybe something very different?

A. I never set out with a main goal in my head, it just started off as a "Yeah I think I could do this" and I really do enjoy the hours I put behind it, I know its not as many as a lot of you but I guess my main accomplish right now is to keep going and never give up. Surprises are fun :3
